Municipal Water Testing

We are often asked the question "Why test my water if I am on a municipal or city water system?"  The answer to that question comes down to whether you really want to understand the quality of your water coming out of the tap.

 

There are many factors that can affect the quality of your municipal water.   

Consider for a moment a few elements that might influence your water quality: water source, municipal treatment methods, water main travel/pipe distance, water main and service line materials, age of infrastructure, etc.  That only covers the domain of getting water from the supply source to your home or commercial property. 

 

There are other factors to consider such as the age of your home or building, plumbing & fixture materials, etc.  With this in mind, it was only in 1986 when the US Safe Drinking Water Act was amended to forbid the use of lead-based solder in plumbing systems.
